DAY 7 -
Friday 6/24
we checked out of the hotel
since we were leaving after a few adventures in town
Our
first adventure was to be the
Bachelor / Syracuse Mine Tour.
Unfortunately, the county decided to tear up the road,
replacing the drainage culverts under the road so our
Vettes weren't an option to get the 2.5 miles up the
road. Stan tried to get something rounded up for a
shuttle for us but it was too late
our
next adventure was
Box Canyon Falls - only a little over 2
block from the hotel but all uphill - so we opted to
drive
there is a visitor center and a nominal fee to view this
falls
A sign explaining how the creation of this awesome place
another sign talked about the hidden waterfall
this isn't a falls you can see the whole thing from any
angle ...but the uniqueness and forcefulness make it very
interesting
...the sound of the raging water echos in the mountain
you can go down stairs to the bottom for a totally
different experience
you can stand and watch the forcefulness and volume - you
could snap a hundred pictures and none would be the same
A View from down at the Falls
five us decided to hike up to the top to view the falls
and river from the top
you could see the town of Ouray and Cascade falls very
well from up here
awesome view from up on top of the bridge
The view of part of our group from the top
the view of us from where they were standing
of course we had to wave for the photo
a fellow hiker offered to take a photo of us up on the
overlook bridge
A View from on Top of the Walkway
at the end of the bridge, there is a short tunnel thru the
mountain for the perimeter trail
...of course we saw this bridge build sign as we were
leaving - built in 1900
we knew it was fairly steep going up ...but it looked
steeper going down
a couple of Vettes peeking thru the trees
the rest of the group waiting for us down at the bottom
it was time to load up and head on up the highway, north on 550
as we headed thru Ouray for the last time this trip
on up the highway
the view behind us was awesome the picturesque
Switzerland of America mountains with America's Sports
Cars trailing behind
the view ahead was changing quickly, as we left Ouray,
Switzerland of America
