The Komen Race
for the CureŽ Series is the largest series of 5K
runs/fitness walks in the world.
In
addition to raising funds, the Komen Race for the CureŽ
Series is committed to educating the public about early
detection, the strongest method of surviving this
life-threatening disease. The five-year survival rate is 95
percent when the disease is discovered while still confined
to the breast.
Up to 75% of the net income
stays in the local community to fund breast health education
and breast cancer screening and treatment projects. A
minimum of 25% supports ground-breaking breast cancer
research, awards, education and conferences around the
world.

Cook Children’s
Medical Center
(Child Life Group - children’s needs)
Cook
Children’s Medical Center is a private, nonprofit hospital
that relies on the generosity of the community for continued
success. The hospital offers children access to nationally
recognized programs in the treatment of cancer and blood
disorders, heart defects and respiratory ailments.
We provide necessary medical care
to children, regardless of a parent's ability to pay. Many
children and families arrive at Cooks under emergency
situations and are unprepared or unable to meet the needs of
an extended stay. The Child Life Group provides clothes,
toys or other needs for the patient and family. They are
also VERY interested in a small number of cars to come
“show” for the patients in their front U-Turn. This has been
a very big success for the teenage boys.

Tarrant
Area
Food Bank
We are
based in Fort Worth to collect and redistribute food to our
area's needy and poor. All of our programs are designed with
this philosophy in mind. We believe that these individuals
and families need help pulling themselves back up so that
they can again become contributors to our community and
society as a whole.
We receive NO federal or state
funding. In our battle against hunger, we have distributed
over seventeen and one-half million (17,500,000) pounds of
food to more than 800,000 needy families throughout Tarrant
and the surrounding counties in 1998 alone. Our Emergency
Food Assistance Program sees lines of 200 to 300 families
daily, and the numbers grow steadily. It is our mission to
secure food for these individuals.

National Kidney Foundation Walk
The National Kidney Foundation walk on
Saturday, October 21, at the Botanic Gardens in Fort Worth
was lots of fun and for a very good cause.
Sharon Zschirnt, Debbie and Jerry
Lindsey, Kim West, Carol Savage and myself, along with a
"little" friend, Katy Thomas, all walked the 3 mile course
in honor of Sylvia! It was a beautiful day and the gardens
were in bloom and really pretty.
I believe I heard 383 people signed up
to walk. Thanks to all of you who participated, I know
Sylvia appreciates it! --Karyn Fowler |
